Personal reflection

One thing that was good about my music video was the gorgeous scenery I used. One area I went to was the beach where I had planned to film certain scenes, the planning I put in for the storyboard really helped to make the time at the beach efficient as I was able to know what I needed to film with the time I had. Another way is that storyboard I did create was in depth a lot and if I had had the opportunity to stick to it and not alter a lot, due to lockdown, I would have been prouder of it but the plan and ideas I created where quite impactful. The editing I did with lip-syncing and making the transitions coincide nicely with the music where smooth and fluid which allowed the music video to be more satisfying than if it was all off beat and not timed correctly. I was happy with some of the natural tone of the scenes, this was done by having the camera at not a fixed spot but moving and zooming as well as having the actors act normally and sometimes catching them in a candid moment. It gave the sense of real memories that I wanted to get across to the audience and by having the natural actors with natural and varied camera work, it allowed this to happen, in my opinion, quite well.

One thing I need to improve on for my music video is the usage of intertextuality. In my storyboard, I had planned I had a reference to another music video with the tones and shades of the filming. However, I was unable to fully complete this because of the lockdown rule and I had to revaluate my idea and try something new. Another thing that was affected was the features of lip-syncing, I had originally got lots of ideas of different types of scenes of lip-syncing however I was also unable to of those due to lockdown so I had to just film myself and use the same sort of clips which made it repetitive. Something I learnt was that I need to make it more interesting and not use the same sort of clips and filters throughout. By using the VHS affect throughout the video, it meant that the message of memories and nostalgia wasn’t as affective. I also felt that with the editing I could have made it more interesting and from watching everyone else’s it has given me the ideas and mind-set to make it more complex and detailed. The colour scheme of the music video wasn’t as satisfying as I would have wanted it to be, I thought by making the lip-syncing clips more bright and warm than the memory clips, it allowed it to feel more in the moment than just repetitive memories. However, looking back I didn’t feel that it worked and it didn’t look like it fitted together properly so I would have definitely made them coincide more to allow the music video to look more put together.
