Checklist for music video (Week 3)
Love song conventions to include as its appealing for my ideal audience:
- Storyline being shown clearly – engaging audience
- Lip-syncing – representing the actors’ feelings
- Different shot angles (long shot then cutting to close up) and speeds of shots to make it more interesting (slow and fast tempo shots)
- Lots of different settings to make it interesting – inside and outside shots
- Different social group represented (high classes and lower classes)
- Editing is more realism (no CGI) and changes scenes on the beat for a more fluid and appealing video
- Different types of tones – near the start is more darker tones and as the story grows the colours from the scenes begin to be more vibrant – only slightly though – reflecting the storyline of things getting better and hopefully making the audience feel better
- Maybe at the beginning to start the storyline there will be some time for the actors to interact and introduce what the video is about – using diegetic sounds – reflects the realism of the video
- The titles on the videos are usually bold to stand out but depending on the storyline it can be more delicate if it’s more of a sad and sensitive story
- Intertextuality – the music videos analysed, e.g. Rizzle Kicks and the realism of their video with the natural acting and portrayal
- Mise-en-scene is ambiguous and allows interpretation to the audience – makes them intrigued and think more about it – ideal audience is also smart and will feel good about picking up on minor details
